Bobby Weed Creates a Masterpiece in Orange Park Fleming Island Club's excellent facilities are a fitting introduction to the exciting par 71 design, renowned and Ponte Vedra Beach resident, Bobby Weed. Five tee settings offer yardages ranging from 4881 to 6801. From a blank canvas of ordinary timber and wetlands, Bobby sketched two nines of differently styled golf. The front nine is open, with waste areas and wetlands creating a links feeling. The back nine has been carved out of standing timberland, providing an atmosphere of solitude, all within the context of the natural terrain. Fairways may not always be as tight as they seem from the tees, but elevation changes and undulations cause drives to roll to less friendly lies and shot angles to greens. Line of sight to many greens is interrupted by berms and moguls, creating blind shots. Water is abundant, but rarely comes into play. Traps don't rise up with glaring intimidation... they mostly lie low, running alongside the green, waiting quietly for you. Mr. Weed designed The Golf Club At Fleming Island not to defeat the golfer through dramatic intimidation, but to challenge him subtly, using the natural surroundings.
